Roof cleaning in Cookstown

Cookstown, with its famously long and wide main street, is one of the larger towns we cover in Tyrone. We travel from Omagh to clean roofs, walls, driveways and gutters for homes in the town and the countryside around it.

Roof cleaning with our air-pole system is our main service, and it means moss can be removed without anyone standing on your tiles.

Cookstown homes

Around the town centre there are older terraced and townhouse properties, many with slate roofs. Cookstown has grown considerably over recent decades, so there are also large estates of semi-detached and detached houses, mostly roofed with concrete tiles. Out in the surrounding countryside, towards the Sperrins to the west and Lough Neagh to the east, there are many one-off bungalows and dormer homes on large sites.

Weather and moss in mid-Tyrone

The countryside west of Cookstown climbs towards the Sperrin foothills, where homes are more exposed to wind and rain. Closer to Lough Neagh the land is lower and the air can be damp for long spells. Either way, roofs here stay wet for long periods, and concrete tiles with a rough surface give moss plenty to grip. Many homes in newer estates are now reaching the age where moss along the lower courses and in valleys is becoming obvious.

Driveways and patios

Many of the newer homes in and around Cookstown have block paving driveways that have darkened and grown weeds in the joints. Pressure washing is often the right method for these, followed by re-sanding where it is part of the quote. We are happy to quote for the roof and the driveway together so the whole property is done in one visit.

Newer roofs need care too

It is easy to assume a roof on a newer house will look after itself, but concrete tiles start to collect moss within a surprisingly short time in mid-Ulster's climate, especially on the shaded slope and along the lower courses above the gutter. Catching it early means a quicker clean with less debris, and a biocide treatment afterwards helps slow the next round of growth. On older slate roofs in the town centre, the priority is avoiding damage, which is why we work from the ground with the air pole rather than walking on the roof.
